Discover a new guide for Coarse Dirt Minecraft Wiki. Coarse dirt is a special variant of dirt that grass blocks cannot spread on.
Obtaining
Break
Raw soil naturally drops as items when mined with any tool or by hand, but a shovel is fastest.
Natural generation
Coarse dirt can be found as large patches in windswept savannas, wooded badlands, and two variants of old growth taiga biomes.
It also spawns in mushroom farm rooms in jungle mansions and in trail ruins.
Looting from the crowd
An Enderman holding raw land will drop blocks upon death.
Crafting
Using
Raw soil has the ability to grow young trees, sugarcane, mushrooms, bamboo, flowers, and sweet fruits that can be planted directly in suitable conditions.
Neither mycelium nor grass can spread on coarse dirt.
Coarse soil can be loosened with a hoe to become regular soil. There must be space above the coarse soil to allow tilling.
Using any type of shovel on coarse dirt will turn it into a dirt road.
Mud
Using water bottles, splashing water bottles or stagnant water bottles will turn gross dirt into mud.
History
1.7.2
Grass-free soil behaves just like regular soil, except that it does not grow weeds.
Dirt without grass is not naturally created.
When damaged, normal dirt will fall out. It cannot be obtained in the advertising warehouse.
? Grassless land can now be found naturally in the savannah biome.
1.8
Ryan Holtz reveals a new raw block, including the recipe for it. “This will be a transparent transition in terms of world creation, as raw land blocks use the same block IDs and data values as the original grassless land blocks. Therefore, even old worlds with blocks Grassless soils should also have them converting seamlessly into coarse dirt.”
Added raw dirt as a craftable and recognizable alternative to non-grass dirt. Because they have the same ID (minecraft:dirt with metadata value 1), all existing non-grass dirt blocks “convert” to that ID on update, despite not actually “changing”.
It can be tilled with a hoe on agricultural land.
It is currently obtainable in the Creative inventory.
