Discover a new guide for Xaero’s World Map Mod Wiki. Xaero’s World Map Mod adds self-written full-screen maps to your Minecraft client. Works as a separate mod but much better with Xaero’s Minimap. Because we want to keep Xaero’s Minimap as light as possible, it is available separately.
Mod type:
Xaero’s World Map Mod feature
Xaero’s World Map mod adds self-written fullscreen maps to your Minecraft client. Works as a separate mod but much better with Xaero’s Minimap. This mod is mostly client-side. Installing it on the server side is optional for some extras like world recognition.
The mod is still under development! Please report any bugs you encounter, or they may not be fixed.
Give the version of Minecraft you are playing (repeat after every Minecraft update) and make sure your world is optimized (Singleplayer – Edit – Optimize World). It takes A LOT more time to create single player maps from unoptimized world saves.
A self-written world map (as opposed to a handmade paper map). You can create multiple maps on the same server address and switch between them manually or automatically.
Works in single player, multiplayer and across kingdoms.
Intuitive interface. Open the map screen by pressing M. Move the map around with the mouse and zoom in/out with the mouse wheel, similar to Google Maps. All the relevant controls are listed in the tooltips on the map screen, and you can customize a lot of them.
Option to automatically detect multiple worlds on the server.
- Shows block requests and allied players from Claim and Open Side modes. Allows you to request or force load blocks directly from the map.
- Resource pack support. Changing resource packs causes the entire world map to be recreated.
- Cave size support (e.g. Nether).
- Optional vanilla map mode, makes the world map look like vanilla paper map.
- Customize the ball according to the terrain.
- “Footsteps” shows you the path you took most recently.
- The settings can help improve the performance of the mod when needed. Although in most cases mods will work fine by default.
- Xaero Minimap Integration. Minimap mode will display the blocks provided by the world map. The world map mod will display waypoints from Xaero’s Minimap mod. Also works with better PVP mode. You can create, edit, and teleport to waypoints without leaving the map view.
Potion effect to control world map usage for your server/map players. The following drug effects exist as of this writing:
xaeroworldmap:no_world_map.
Effects have a neutral type by default,
You can also specify the harmful type by adding _harmful at the end of the effect ID
For example:
xaeroworldmap:no_world_map_harmful.
More New Features
- You can open the waypoints menu on the map (As of version 1.14.0 of the mod) by clicking the icon in the bottom right corner of the map screen.
- You can view the word list in the waypoints menu, along with all the waypoints on your map from the displayed sets, interact with them with the mouse pointer, filter them by name in the text field. copy.
- The menu also makes it easy to toggle rendering of all sets, disabled waypoint visibility, and change the current set of waypoints.
- Hovering over waypoints in the menu works as well as hovering over them on the map: you can use the controls to right-click them and be marked on the map, or hover to interact with them.
- An option to export the map as a PNG image file. It may not work if the map is millions of blocks in length since the mod tries to export the whole map. I plan to provide more options for exporting maps in the future!
- Optionally limit your map access by associating it with a required item in your hotbar or equipped. For example, add mapItemId:minecraft:compass anywhere in the config file to associate it with the compass entry. This way the map won’t work unless you have a compass in the hotbar or equipped.
Ways to restore Nether map in multiplayer:
First, exit the server and find the Minecraft game directory that you are using to play on the server.
In the game directory:
>>>>Go to XaeroWorldMap/Multiplayer_[server_address]/DIM-1/[map_folder].
If there isn’t one, create a folder named “cave”, (without quotes and go in there).
Inside the caves >>>>> folder create a folder named “-2147483648” (without the quotes).
If you don’t have them yet, return:
The directory containing the “caves” folder
Move all “.zip” files to caves/-2147483648 folder.
Remember to clear the cache folders
Move them along with the “.zip” files.
Set cave mode to work:
You can absolutely achieve this only using the normal version of the minimap or no minimap at all.
The fair version of the minimap now disables cave mode on the world map in the Nether and you can’t toggle it, so it won’t be exactly the same as before.
If you have Nether map data from before 1.30, please start by moving it to the correct folder as explained in “How to restore pre-1.30 updated Nether maps in multiplayer in multiplayer to be displayed in “full” cave mode type?” on this page.
After you’ve done that, join a world/server and open the world map settings. Locate “Default Cave Mode Type” and set it to OFF, then set “Legal Cave Map” to ON. Then click on the cave icon in the bottom left corner of the screen when you open the world map screen. In the menu that opens, set “Cave Mode Top Y” to any number.
If you’re in the afterlife, set “Cave mode type” to OFF. When you’re in the Nether after that, set “Cave Mode Type” to Full. You can set it to Full for any dimension just like the nether because the cave mode type is stored per dimension, and keep it OFF for anything else.
You can also switch between showing below and above the roof by turning it on/off.
Explore the map without manual walking:
In single player, maps are loaded directly from the save world. You can pre-generate the world with any tool, by logging in again and using the “Reload Area” option in the world map settings to fix any conflicts in the map cache.
In multiplayer, there is no official way to do it. Copying the buffer from the single player map will not work.
Multiple worlds on the same server address:
This mod allows you to have multiple maps on the same server address.
You can freely switch between maps and create new maps at any time. Map overwriting can be prevented by selecting the “Map Selection” mode appropriate to the type of server you are playing on.
By clicking on the bottom left icon on the world map screen, the map selection is made in a special menu (if the menu is not open by default).
In the menu you can switch between Manual, World Spawn and Single modes and select/create a map using the dropdown menu in the top center.
You can read everything you need to know about each map selection mode when you hover your mouse over the Map Select option, including Server mode. The World Spawn mode is equivalent to what was used by the world map before 1.6. So you don’t need to downgrade the mod to still use it.
Server mode is the best option in most cases because the server automatically controls your map selection based on a server-side level ID. It requires mods to be installed on the server side.
If changing the map selection mode turns your map into a blank map, you can always re-link the map you want to use by selecting it from the drop-down menu and confirming.
Confirmation request:
A server address can have multiple underworlds, links, etc. It could be because there are multiple secondary servers or only multiple worlds are saved, for example the “Lobby” world and the “Game” world.
Different worlds don’t have any unique identifiers on the client side, which makes it impossible to reliably distinguish them. Therefore, the world map mod allows you to have multiple maps, and a whole world for each dimension on the same server address.
- In the old mod,
- Map selection is Manual,
- You are asked to confirm the map
- They will use each time you convert :
- Dimensions/world/subserver.
Of the two automatic modes, you can also choose them. By clicking on the bottom left icon on the world map screen the map selection is made in a special menu.
