Discover a new guide for Cow Mob Wiki. A Cow is a passive mob in Minecraft and is found in most grass biomes and is a source of hides, beef, and milk.
Spawning
During world creation or individually, Cows spawn on grass blocks in small herds. Their reproduction rate varies from biome.
In Bedrock Version:
Herds of two to three calves spawn on grassy blocks, at light level 9 or higher and at least two blocks of space above.
In most grass biomes except:
- Snow taiga forest
- Snow plains
- Meadow
- Mangrove swamp
- Barren land with many trees.
In Java Version:
Herds of four cows spawn on grassy blocks. This happens when they are at light level 7 or higher and at least two blocks of space above. Cows spawn in most grass biomes except:
- Snow meadow
- Meadow
- Mangrove swamp
- The land is barren with many trees.
In addition, a cow sometimes spawns inside the stables and houses of the butchers in the village.
Tearing the mooshroom turns it into a cow and drops five mushrooms corresponding to the type of mushroom.
Most cows lay eggs as adults, but they have a 5% chance of giving birth to calves (calves).
Drop
An adult cow falls:
- 1 to 3 raw beef (or steak if killed on fire), with the maximum amount increased by 1 per level of Loot, up to a maximum of 6 with Loot III.
- 0 to 2 skins, with the maximum number increasing by 1 per level of Loot, up to a maximum of 5 with Loot III.
- 1–3 experience orbs drop when killed by a player or tamed wolf, or 1–7 when successfully crossed.
- Killing a calf gives neither items nor experience.
Behavior
A cow occasionally whines and gasps when it wanders aimlessly but tends to stay in well-lit and grassy places. A cow also:
Flees and maintains 25% faster speed for a few seconds when damaged.
Sometimes looks at players within six blocks for two to four seconds.
Avoid going into the water unless it follows the player and always avoid crossing minecart trolley tracks and walking off cliffs high enough to deal damage on falls.
Avoid environmental hazards, such as cactus, sweet berry bushes, dripping rocks, fire, or lava, but do not attempt to avoid explosions.
An adult cow can be milked by placing a bucket over it, yielding a bucket of milk.
Breed
In Minecraft, A cow follows a player holding wheat but will stop following if it is at least six blocks away from the player.
Mature cows pair up and go into love mode to create calves. After they are given wheat, give the player between one and seven orbs of experience. Maternal cows have a cooldown of 5 minutes before calving and when they are able to spawn again can be accelerated using wheat; each use reduces remaining growth time by 10%.
The calves take 20 minutes to grow up and follow the adult cows, preferring them instead of the player holding the wheat. The spawning calf tries to go to the available block closest to its parent, even if no path can be found. A calf finds its way to another adult cow if it is more than 24 blocks away from its parents.
