Basic information about the mod

The mod is all about adding technological cosmetic things to improve players’ gaming experience. It adds nothing but just programmable, modular, and preserving computers with robots.

All computers are modular and feature various important elements such as graphics cards, network cards, Redstone cards, etc. If you use a consistent power generating mod, the computers will require power to function by default. However, you can make changes to this in the config.

OpenComputers Mod is made to be suitable for survival gameplay. It will give you the best gaming experience if you combine it with other mods. The way the mod functions with other mods is through the Adapter Block.

For the computers, they are expensive to craft. Hence, you should not try crafting your first one in the early stage of the game. However, you can try the difficult mode recipe set if you want to take on an extra challenge.

This Technology mod also brings some components to Minecraft. You make use of these components to expand computers. For instance, you can use motion sensors, holograms, etc. Besides, the mod also features some robots.

Wiki of OpenComputers

The mod lets you try some unique features such as:

Computers

  • They are programable computers.
  • The mod lets itself write the programs through the use of the Lua programming language.
  • You can program these computers at a low level.
  • However, the integrated operating system imitates a Lua environment that is as close to vanilla Lua as possible.
  • The computers given by the mod keep on their script state through saves. In other words, they will keep on implementing where they left off even though they are in an unloaded chunk.
  • If you install a compatible mod with OpenComputers, the computers will need the power to function. Besides, lots of elements will need to have energy for some operations.

Robots and Drones

  • The mod also gives players some robots and drones to play with.
  • Robots are stronger than drones.
    • They are able to utilize tools.
    • They also feature lots of components.
  • For drones, they are more mobile than robots.
    • They are able to implement actions that the robots cannot.
      • For instance, they can leash animals.

Some computer devices

OpenComputers also features some computer devices such as:

  • Servers: They allow four computers to be in one block.
  • Microcontrollers:  They are quite cheap. However, they are more limited.
  • Tablets: They are portable computers.

Components

Components are also important elements that you use with your computers. Here are the components featured in the mod:

  • Hologram projector: You use it to project a voxel-based 3D image into the world of Minecraft.
  • 3D printer: You use it to print decorative blocks.

Modularity

  • The main focus of the mod is modularity.
  • All computers are highly modular.
  • You can select the parts to create your computers, robots, as well as other devices.
  • Lots of tiers for various elements such as computer cases, screens, graphics cards, network cards, etc.
  • The mod also features a certain level of progression when you try to craft better, more quickly, and stronger computers.

OpenComputers Integration

This Technology mod can be integrated with lots of other mods such as:

It gives support to bundled Redstone in some mods like:

  • Project Red
  • Redlogic
  • BluePower
  • MineFactory Reloaded

It covers cables in some mods like:

  • FMP
  • Immibis Microblocks

It accepts power from some mods like:

  • RF
  • EU
  • Factorization Charge
  • Mekanism Joules
  • AE2 Energy

Besides the mod integration, it also features a block that gives you a more in-depth interaction with the blocks of other mods. That block is called the Adapter.

For the blocks that are supported, the Adapter will make those blocks accessible as components to linked computers. This lets them read some information like energy levels and feasible issue commands.

Some other mods also give integrated support for OpenComuters. In other words, you can link their blocks to a cable without using an Adapter.

Mod Configurability

You can configure most elements in this mod. For instance:

  • You can change the power requirements or turn them off.
  • It allows you to grow the render distance for the screens.
  • Besides, you can change every item recipe in the mod through the recipe files. This does not require MineTweaker.
  • You can take a look at some recipe sets that are available in the config/opencomputers directory.
