Carrot plants are grown on farmland and are used to grow carrots.

Fully mature carrot plants stock 2 to 5 carrots (average harvest 3 5⁄7 per crop). Yield can be increased by using a tool enchanted by Fortune, with Fortune III harvesting an average of 5 3⁄7 carrots.

Performance was calculated using a binomial distribution: 2 drops were fixed, then a triple reduction attempt was made with a success rate of 57.14286% to yield an additional 0–3 drops. Each lucky charm level increases the number of attempts by one.

Farm plots in the village have a chance to have carrots.

Robbery of the crowd

Zombies, huskies, and zombie villagers have a 2.5% (1⁄40) chance to drop an iron, carrot, or potato when killed by a player or tamed wolf. This rate increases by 1% (1⁄100) for each loot level. This gives carrots the following drop chances:

1⁄120 (about 0.83%)
7⁄600 (about 1.17%) with Loot I
9⁄600 (approximately 1.50%) with Loot II
11⁄600 (approximately 1.83%) with Loot III

To eat carrots, press and hold use while carrots are selected on the hot bar. Eating one carrot restores 3 hunger and 3.6 hunger saturation.

Agriculture

Carrots can be grown and harvested on farmland. Grown carrots go through 8 stages to grow and go through 4 visually distinct stages. Grown carrots need a light level of 9 or higher to continue growing. If the light level is 7 or less, the plant will automatically stop growing (“off”). Carrots cannot be grown if the light level is too low.

Crops grow faster if the farmland in which they are grown is well-hydrated. Using bone meal on crops also increases growth rates by randomly increasing their growth stage from 2 to 5.

Crops break if pushed by a piston, dropping their usual drops of water.

If /gamerule mobGriefing is true, rabbits will find mature carrot plants‌[Java version only] / carrot plants with growth stage greater than 1‌[Bedrock version only]. This reduces the growth stages by one, completely eliminating the crop when the growth phase reaches zero.
