Discover a new guide for Kelp Minecraft Wiki. Kelp is an aquatic plant that grows in most oceans.
Kelp Minecraft Obtaining
Natural generation
Kelp occurs naturally in any ocean biome (except in frozen, deep frozen, and warm biomes), near and around seagrass beds.
Each block has a 1⁄18 chance of creating a kelp mat.
Break
Kelp can be mined instantly with any tool or with the player’s fists. Breaking a kelp stem will destroy all kelp blocks above it. Each block drops a kelp item.
Commerce
Kelp can be purchased from wandering traders for 3 emeralds.
Kelp Minecraft Using
Kelp can be placed underwater by hand or anywhere using commands like /setblock. Placing it manually will give it a random age value between 0 and 24. Kelp can only be placed in water source blocks or downward flowing water, not horizontally flowing water.
When placed in a downward stream of water, the flowing water will turn into a water source block,[1] useful for creating faster bubble column elevators.
Any building block can be placed on top of a kelp plant, which is useful for building structures on the deep ocean without building from the ocean floor (see also lily leaf).

Composting
Placing kelp in the compost bin has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1.
Growth mechanism
Kelp can be grown on many different types of blocks. It grows underwater if it has a water source block or, in Java Edition, has water flowing above it.[2] Neither the player nor the dispenser can remove the water source block on which the kelp grows without first breaking the kelp.
Kelp does not need any level of light to grow. Kelp also grows without access to the sky. Bone meal can be used to feed kelp by 1 block per use.
Kelp Minecraft Grown
Kelp, when grown, is generated with a randomly selected age value, which can be checked by pressing F3. The age value of a newly planted kelp plant changes randomly from 0 to 24. Each time the kelp grows in height by one block, the newly created top of the kelp plant increases its age by 1.
When the block above The bottom of the kelp plant reaches 25 years of age when it stops growing. This means that kelp can naturally grow to a height of between 2 (if the first kelp plant is age 24) and 26 blocks.
When a kelp block is broken, the age of the kelp block below is randomly selected from 0 to 24, and the kelp continues to grow until it reaches 25 years old.
This mechanism can be used to grow a kelp plant to increase its growth height beyond its natural maximum height of 26 blocks. This can be done by breaking the top block of the kelp plant every time it reaches 25 years of age. The kelp plant planted by the player in this way continuously grows until it reaches the water surface.
Each time a random tick is received, the kelp has a 14% chance of growing.
If you cut the top kelp block with scissors, the block will automatically set its age value to 25 and stop growing.[Java version only]
Agriculture
Kelp farming is similar to sugar cane farming, however the kelp must be placed underwater. Automating harvesting is easier because the item will float in the water.
