 Lava Bucket Obtaining

Interact

To fill an empty bucket with lava, use it on the lava source block or the lava in the cauldron. This block is consumed during this process. Flowing lava does not fill the bucket.

If there is a lava source above a pointed dripping stalactite, there is a 15⁄256 (~5.9%) chance for it to completely fill an empty cauldron within 10 blocks below the top with lava after one charge random blockage. This lava can then be scooped with a bucket, turning it into a renewable resource.

Using

A lava bucket can be used to place a lava source using the Use Item button. Doing so will return the bucket to the player. Lava buckets can be used to replace some incomplete, transparent blocks such as tall grass and water, both flows and sources.

In Java Edition, lava buckets can be used to break Nether portal blocks by placing lava on the side of the block next to the portal block.

 Lava Bucket Metallurgical

Lava buckets can be used as effective fuel. It has a longest burn value of 1000 seconds, compared to 800 seconds for a block of cinder (a bucket of lava melts 100 items and a block of cinder melts 80 items). Once the smelting process begins, the lava barrel turns into an empty barrel.

Commerce

In Bedrock Edition, villagers wearing journey-level armor buy a barrel of lava for an emerald as part of their trade.

In Java Edition, villagers wearing journey-level armor have a 40% chance to offer to buy a barrel of lava for one emerald.

Cauldron

A lava bucket can be used to fill the cauldron with lava. Lava damages any entity adjacent to it. Running or flooding water does not affect the lava in the cauldron.
